One connected ecommerce experience, while still giving customers the flexibility to shop from their local store
Global Pet Foods is a Canadian pet retailer with more than 230 franchise locations, each with its own products, pricing and inventory. Before working with Domaine, every franchise operated its own website or subdomain, with no central source of truth and little consistency between locations. Global Pet Foods wanted to change that: one connected ecommerce experience, while still giving customers the flexibility to shop from their local store.
One experience, built for every location
With more than 230 franchise locations, Global Pet Foods needed a single ecommerce experience that could support store-specific pricing, inventory, and fulfilment - functionality that Shopify doesn't offer out of the box. Customers select a store, after which relevant products, pricing and availability are surfaced dynamically. The experience then adapts to show local availability, pricing, and fulfilment options, including shipping and pickup. To power this, Domaine built a custom pricing and inventory matrix that allows Global Pet Foods to manage local differences without duplicating products for every store.
Making local shopping work online
Global Pet Foods needed to balance location-specific pricing and inventory with a seamless product discovery experience. Customers needed to be able to browse before selecting a store, with pricing and availability only becoming visible once their location is selected. Domaine redesigned the store locator and product discovery experience around this requirement, making location a seamless part of the customer journey. Navigation and filtering were also streamlined to reflect local inventory. By surfacing products based on local availability, the experience reduces empty collection pages and prevents customers from discovering products they can’t purchase from their chosen store.
Connecting every part of the fulfilment journey
Bringing Global Pet Foods’ franchise model online also meant creating a delivery experience that could operate locally while being managed centrally. Domaine integrated AI-powered logistics platform Nash directly into checkout, allowing customers to select a delivery time while Nash automatically connects each order with the appropriate local delivery provider. Each franchise can manage orders through their own dashboard, while Global Pet Foods retains oversight of the wider experience. Location-based fixed pricing adds consistency across the network, giving franchises greater control over fulfilment without adding complexity to the customer journey.
Building the system behind the storefront
Supporting location-specific inventory and pricing across the franchise network required Global Pet Foods’ product data to work differently too. Global Pet Foods uses Etail to access pet-specific product information, but only carries a selection of those products. Domaine built a custom integration to map the products Global Pet Foods sells to the Etail feed, then layer location-specific inventory and pricing on top. This created a single product feed connecting product information with availability and pricing across every location. Domaine also builtcustom admin functionality to connect location data with the storefront, while enabling each franchise to continue managing its own product and pricing configuration through existing systems.
Creating a foundation for what's next
The new Shopify experience gives Global Pet Foods a consistent foundation across its franchise network, with the flexibility to support greater personalisation as the brand evolves. Recharge brings subscriptions into the same connected experience , while integrations with AIR MILES and DataCandy linkecommerce purchases to Global Pet Food's existing loyalty programmes. The foundation is also designed to support deeper location-based personalisation, giving individual stores the ability to surface their own content and tailored experiences while remaining part of a consistent ecommerce framework.
A scalable solution for a complex franchise model
Bringing more than 230 independently operated locations into one ecommerce experience required an architecture built around the operational complexity of a franchise business. From location-based pricing and inventory to local fulfilment and loyalty, Domaine created a flexible architecture that allows Global Pet Foods to operate as one connected ecommerce brand without losing the local experience that makes each store unique. The result is a scalable digital foundation that gives Global Pet Foods greater consistency and central oversight, while preserving the flexibility each franchise needs to serve its local customers.
