Kinderpostzegels

Building a resilient digital platform for a national fundraising tradition

As Kinderpostzegels annual nation-wide campaign increasingly shifted online, the organization needed to rebuild and redesign their Shopify setup to hande extreme traffic spikes while keeping the ordering experience simple for supporters. Domaine partnered with Kinderpostzegels to create a scalable foundation that could support peak demand while simplifying donations and purchases.

Digitizing a century-old fundraising campaign

The annual Kinderpostzegelactie generates an enormous surge in activity over a single week as supporters place orders with participating students that go door-to-door. As the campaign digitized, the share of online orders quickly grew, with a majority of supporters shifting to place their orders online rather than traditional paper forms. To support this evolution, the Domaine team rebuilt and redesigned Kinderpostzegelactie original Shopify store so customers can place orders or donations in just a few clicks.

Designing a simple experience for high-volume fundraising

A key part of the project focused on making the donation process as intuitive as possible. As the organisation observed a significant shift toward monetary donations versus physical stamp purchases, the product structure was simplified to prioritize donation options. Personalized QR codes allow each participating student to track their sales, while a donation option in checkout enables supporters to round up their purchase and contribute additional funds. These features reduce friction during the ordering process — critical for a campaign where many purchases happen quickly at the doorstep.

Infrastructure built for extreme traffic spikes

The Kinderpostzegelactie generates one of the most intense ecommerce traffic peaks in the Netherlands, with a large portion of campaign revenue often processed on the first day. Domaine implemented custom integrations that connect Shopify with Kinderpostzegels’ operational systems, including one integration that forwards orders to their fulfillment partner and another that imports orders from digitized paper forms into Shopify. This ensures that both digital and offline orders are captured within a single system, creating a unified source of truth for payments, fulfilment, and customer support.
