Little Dutch

Building a scalable foundation for a fast-growing international brand

As their global presence expanded, Little Dutch’s existing ecommerce platform struggled to keep pace with increasing demand, performance expectations, and operational complexity. Little Dutch partnered with Domaine to migrate from a small local platform to Shopify, creating a faster, more reliable foundation that could support their continued international growth.

Replatforming to Shopify for speed and scalability

Little Dutch’s previous ecommerce platform had become a bottleneck for the business. Performance issues, limited flexibility, and growing operational complexity made it difficult for the team to scale the brand or deliver the seamless shopping experience their customers expected. After evaluating several platforms, Shopify emerged as the best fit due to international scalability and lower total cost of ownership. Domaine led the migration strategy, focusing on a streamlined architecture that would support both direct-to-consumer (DTC) and business-to-business (B2B) commerce while preserving the brand’s distinctive online experience.

Built for international expansion

As Little Dutch operates in more than fifty countries, they needed a Shopify set up that would support and maintain international growth. The Domaine team designed a scalable architecture with separate B2B and DTC storefronts, allowing each channel to evolve independently while maintaining operational efficiency. For the DTC environment, Shopify Markets enables Little Dutch to localize pricing, languages, and content by country. This structure allows the brand to launch new markets quickly without duplicating work, creating a scalable framework for continued global expansion.

More control for the internal team

In addition to performance improvements, the migration to Shopify significantly increased operational flexibility for the Little Dutch team. Product data was restructured using product families, collections, and tags, allowing the team to update content, manage campaigns, and launch promotions with far less developer support. Shopify’s intuitive admin interface enables multiple team members to manage the store efficiently, reducing operational bottlenecks and allowing the brand to move faster. At the same time, integrations with tools such as Klaviyo enable the team to expand their marketing capabilities through automated email flows and customer lifecycle campaigns.

Results

By migrating Little Dutch from a small platform they had outgrown to Shopify, and leveraging Shopify’s native capabilities and integrating with Little Dutch’s existing systems, including their PIM and payment service provider, the team delivered a future-ready ecommerce platform that improves performance while simplifying operations. With a scalable international architecture and a more intuitive backend, the Little Dutch team can now launch campaigns, expand into new markets, and optimize the customer journey more efficiently.

"Conversion is often a concern during migrations, but we didn’t see any drop in traffic from search engines. That confirmed for us that we handled it the right way."
