Simplifying commerce for the complex furniture industry
The Domaine team took a consultative approach to migrating Arhaus from a custom ecommerce solution to Shopify; the goal was to keep innovation at the core of the digital experience, while also making the complexity that is inherent within the furniture category look effortless.
Enterprise complexity on Shopify
Testing was a big opportunity for Arhaus. Our UX team drove a deep-dive competitive audit, customer and site data, and ultimately ran a user-testing program to validate our recommendations.
A design system for storytelling
The Domaine design team developed a visual language that supports the rich storytelling and photography that are core to the Arhaus strategy. The system provides large immersive content blocks that pair easily with multiple smaller modules, a interlocking library of content and product sections.
Shop the Room
We developed a quickly recognizable ‘Shop The Room’ functionality that’s easy to apply across all site photography - inspiring the customer by associating all the products in any editorial image. Increasing discoverability, time on site, and pages per visit - this feature is easily configurable within the Shopify admin
Best in class home PDP
Product detail pages are deeply complex for furniture brands, and our goal was to make them simple and inspiring. Our UX/UI solutions work across a wide variety of product types while communicate both breadth and depth of product information. But most importantly they make complex product customization easy and enjoyable.
An Immersive 3D Customizer
Domaine launched a 3D customizer for Arhaus that allows shoppers to create their own sectional by adding pieces, selecting fabrics, and customizing depth. The high-fidelity, immersive experience provides an experience that goes beyond competitors’ more simplistic tools. Developed with 3D Source, the launch prioritized beautifully detailed product models, elegant perspective shifts, and elevated aesthetics. During user testing of the configurator, 85% of users had a positive impression of the experience, noting that it was “easy to use”, “interesting and intuitive” and “high end and elegant”.

Domaine migrated Arhaus from a custom ecommerce solution to Shopify Plus, a legacy platform with great complexity and historical challenges.
